If you want to build lasting relationships with your customers, be honest with them. Don’t grossly exaggerate the benefits or value of your product or service. Treat your customers and prospects as you would a valued friend or family member, because many of them will become just that. It’s the new business model that is being dictated by the Internet and World Wide Web. People are fed up with being lied to, manipulated, taken advantage of, and even abused by seemingly heartless businesses who are all trying to get a part of their hard-earned money. They want to be able to buy from people and companies that they can trust. They want to be treated fairly.

When I find a product, service, person or company that I feel good about, I tell all my friends about it. I want them to have the opportunity to take advantage of it too. For example, many of my friends want to create attractive websites that will be appealing to their site visitors, but that will also be “search-engine friendly”. That can sometimes be a very time-consuming and expensive process.

What may be the perfect phrase to convey a particular thought or meaning to your website visitors may not be attractive to the search-engine programs that rate your site. So, webmasters often wind up “compromising” – actually changing the wording of the idea they were trying to get across to their visitor, in order to try to satisfy both people and programs. This results in a “less than ideal” situation.

So, when friends ask me about how to get around this problem, I gladly tell them about a terrific product called “Site Build-It” that quickly guides them through the process of creating websites that are both people and search-engine friendly. It’s a great product and I feel good about being able to tell them about it. We’ll talk more about it later in the book.

Referral, or word-of-mouth, marketing is the best marketing. In addition to being able to feel good about recommending a great product or service to your friends, you can make a nice chunk of extra money by using one of the powerful programs available to perform “viral” marketing for you in your business. Another popular term you will see or hear regularly is “relationship” marketing. Regardless of the term used, the fact is that by being honest with your customers and delivering a quality product or service at an affordable price, you will get a lot of referred business.

So how is a mindset created? What makes you have a mindset that has you expecting breathtaking success every time you attempt something? Well, a number of things come to mind.

You don't suffer from jealously about the success of others. George Lucas doesn't have to have a bomb so Steven Spielberg can have a hit movie. Madonna's new album doesn't have to tank so that Whitney Houston can have a hit. There is enough prosperity to go around.

So it's important that you celebrate the success of others. Even if you perceive them to be your competition. In most cases, competition enlarges the available market.

Another important thing is to study people who have been successful in the area you are interested in. This does a few things.

First and foremost - it builds your belief that a successful outcome is possible. If you're fighting cancer and you read Lance Armstrong's book - it gives your beliefs credibility.

Second, this just gives you overall positive programming. And when you're getting positive programming - it means you're not getting negative programming!

Finally, studying people who are successful in your area gives you the opportunity to model what they have done. You learn from their experience and can achieve your own sooner.

Another important factor in developing a success mindset is hanging around successful people. Jim Rohn or whoever suggested taking a millionaire to lunch had a very good idea.

It's been said that your income will be the average of your five closest friends. Not only do I believe that is true for your income, but I also think it holds true for your health, happiness, self-esteem and just about everything else. Including mindset. When you hang around successful people, their beliefs, habits and actions start to rub off on you.

Of course you have to restrict the negative programming you receive from the data-sphere and counteract it with positive programming.

Give this all some thought. And give yourself a grade on what you're doing to develop a mindset of breathtaking success.
