This month, I'd like to share with you some of
the more noteworthy changes that I see occurring on the Internet and
World Wide Web and what it means to those of us who are trying to use
this incredible medium to make a difference.

In the last issue, I shared with you my
childhood dream of being able to live the life of a rich man (like
billionaire-status) and to
use my wealth to help change lives for the better - but how,
unfortunately, my
soul had a different plan for me and I never became a billionaire
like John Beresford Tipton on that old TV show.
So, I'm determined to do the next best thing,
which is to use what I have and share with you everything I can to

- A Double-edged Sword - Part 1

Of all communications media, television is by
far the most powerful when it comes to influencing the minds of the
average man, woman or child. Because it incorporates methods
which can influence the mind on multiple levels, and involves multiple
senses in its delivery, television can have a profoundeffect
on the way people perceive themselves and the world around them.
Advertisers know this well, which is why they are willing to spend
outrageous amounts of money on presenting their products and/or
services to the people through this medium. Thirty or sixty second
commercials can cost thousands, tens of thousands or even hundreds of
thousands of dollars to be presented a single time if shown during
prime time or during programs or special events that guarantee
millions of viewers (and thus, millions of potential customers).
Why would any company be willing to spend that kind of money for
such a short period of exposure? Because that commercial could bring
them millions of dollars in sales revenues. When you add in the
additional cost of producing the commercial, you can really begin to
appreciate how powerful this medium is. Companies would not stay in
business long if the money they spent on advertising did not prove to
be a profitable investment.
The television networks also know this very well, which is why they
can charge so much to the advertisers for delivering the message to
the viewer/consumer. It is also why there is so much spent on
developing programming that will attract viewers and keep them coming
back. If they cannot hold their audience, they will not be able to
charge those astronomical fees for advertising. And so, the
competition heats up as the networks vie for audience share - each
trying to out-do the others - in order to hold the attention span of
the people who are watching.
Unfortunately, in their quest for greater
market share, most networks seem willing to go to any length to grab,
and hold, the viewer's attention. Also unfortunately, one
of the ways to get the viewer's attention is to use "shock
value" and this seems to be the most popular method television
executives have chosen to pursue.
That is why the network's "News" shows have evolved into
the "Bad News" shows. Almost every single
"newscast" begins with headline segments consisting of the
day's tragedies. A murder occurred here, a robbery there, a plane
crash over there.
In a typical 30 minute news broadcast, the viewer will see about 28
minutes of crime, catastrophe, tragedy, etc. (and commercials) and
about 2 minutes of "happy" news - usually at the very end of
the show. It is also why so many "talk" shows have sprung up
which are really nothing more than "tabloid" journalism at
its most offensive. It seems that the feeling among most television
executives is that, if there is not enough "bad news" to
report, let's "make some up" or let's find some people who
are willing to say or do anything, even humiliate themselves (for a
few minutes of fame or a few dollars), in order to keep the shock
value up.
In other areas of programming, far too often, the same mindset
seems to be at work. Daytime TV is dominated by "soap
operas" which present characters and storylines that are sure to
shock. Prime time is filled with violence, sex and topics that show
the worst in people. Even the so-called "Reality" TV shows
are filled with examples of the worst kind of human behavior.
Is it any wonder that people who watch a good deal of television
(and most do - usually around 4 to 8 hours a day), develop a distorted
view of reality? The hardest hit are the elderly and handicapped (or
"physically challenged", to be politically correct). Television
is their greatest means of contact with the world. Next are
the children, who are more open to suggestion.
But don't think for a minute that "normal", healthy,
mobile adults escape the effects of all of this negative programming.
Why do you suppose that there are so many stories of basically good
people who suddenly "snap" and do the most outrageous or
hideous things? After being bombarded with so much negativity, it
could almost seem to be "normal" behavior. After all, you
see it on television all the time.
I don't mean to present a total indictment against TV. There is
some very good, uplifting programming available. There's just not
enough of it. And that's a shame, because television
can be used to present the most powerful ideas, the most wonderful
experiences and the most incredible opportunities for personal growth
imaginable.
Fantastic concerts, uplifting stories of the human spirit, fabulous
training and education - all of this and more can be delivered through
the medium of television. Lives can be radically alteredin
positive ways by delivering material through this medium. The
viewer can be given the opportunity to literally change their life
simply by using the information that can be presented in uplifting,
entertaining and FUN ways.
Television can give us the opportunity to gain an education
equivalent to an advanced college degree program. It can give us the inspiration
and motivation to create a successful business or to make changes
that will help us to "live a life that matters". It
can stimulate the creative fire in us and cause us to develop
incredible works of art, literature or music. It can provide a
nurturing, supportive environment that promotes personal growth of all
kinds. It can do all this and more.
Imagine a day when a lack of money no longer prevents anyone from
obtaining a first class education. Imagine a day
when people are encouraged to develop themselves to their fullest
potential. Imagine a day when the opportunity to establish
and build a successful business, which can provide the financial
freedom necessary to live your life as you so desire, is available to
anyone who is willing to put forth the effort.
That day is coming - and sooner than you think. There was a great
experiment on satellite TV when it first became available. One of the
new stations available was totally devoted to presenting positive,
uplifting programming. Unfortunately, the world was not ready for
it yet and it failed. But, once again, the Internet and World Wide
Web are coming to the rescue and the dream is still alive. I've
decided to get involved because I feel it is such an incredible
opportunity for people to learn and change their lives for the better.

Giving Positive Feedback Can Motivate & Build Confidence In Others

One mild form of flattering others
that can pay big dividends is to give them positive feedback about their statements, actions, and results. Positive feedback might also be considered a confirming behavior because it adds to the self-worth of others.
The ability and willingness to give positive feedback contributes to
personal magnetism because people are drawn closer to those people who deliver such feedback. Here are three suggestions for giving positive feedback:
1. Make the feedback specific. Pinpoint what the person did right by saying something on this order: "Your suggestion for using smaller boxes for mailing our products resulted in a $90,000 savings the first year." Specific feedback is more motivational than a general statement such as "Thanks for the great suggestion."
2. Provide some of your feedback in public. The most widely accepted adage in human relations is "Criticize in private, praise in public."
3. Provide the feedback close in time to the good deed. A basic principle of positive reinforcement is that the reward should follow close in time to the behavior that merited the reward. Recognizing that you might have a busy, cramped schedule yourself, set a realistic goal of providing positive feedback (even a one-minute message) within five working days of the good deed you want to recognize.
There is a lot of good that can come
from giving positive feedback. Low self-esteem is the biggest
reason why so many people never come close to reaching their
potential. By giving credit where it is deserved and by encouraging
people to grow, you truly can "make a difference".

Label Rights Could Be The Answer For You!

As I mentioned in the Notes From The Editor section above, there has
been an absolute explosion of Private Label Rights (PLR) material
recently on the Web. This can mean a lot of opportunity for you,
whether you are buyer or a seller.
What I mean by that is that you may
decide to purchase PLR material for your own use such as using it
for content on your website, using it for newsletter articles, using
it as a foundation for that book you've been planning on writing for
years but never seem to find the time to get around to it. Or, if
you have no interest in purchasing PLR content, you may find that
you can earn a nice income if you decide to offer your services as a
"ghostwriter" or private label content provider.
If you have fairly good writing
skills, there is a very hungry audience of Internet publishers who
are willing to pay you handsomely for creating useful articles that
they can publish on their sites or use as a chapter in an e-book
they're thinking about developing. You can write about anything that
interests you and actually get paid for it!
In case you're not that familiar
with the concept of Private Label Rights, here's a brief
introduction.
Private Label Rights allow a writer
or publisher to make various types of changes to content that is
written by others. There are different types of limitations that are
sometimes placed on the material, but that is up to the actual
author to determine just how much freedom they want purchasers to
have. The author may give only limited rights or, more commonly, may
place no restrictions on what can be done with the material once it
is purchased. Here are some examples.
Changes can include:
* Changing the title of the product,
* Putting your own name on it as the author,
* Using your own E-cover (if it's long enough to serve as a report
or e-book),
* Embedding your own affiliate links in the copy,
* Adding, removing and editing the content of the product,
* Editing the pre-written sales letter (if one is included),
* And a whole lot more!
The Difference Between Private Label Rights And Normal
Resell Rights
With Private Label Rights, you (the purchaser) are actually given the
editable rights to change, remove from, or add to a digital product freely, which you cannot possibly do with a
Resell Rights product.
While you are allowed to resell a product and keep 100% of the profits
for yourself with Resell Rights products, you cannot modify and do
not "have any control" of the product's content. You must sell it
"as is".
Now, I am not saying that one type of rights is better than the other.
In fact, I use both types of rights freely. It's the only way I can
continue to produce and offer quality content at the rate the market
demands. Even though I love to write, the fact is that there are
only so many hours in a day and I keep myself very busy. So, I write
my own material when I can, but am not shy about using
"ghostwritten" material when I'm short on time. Of course,
I want top quality material. I won't use poorly written articles
just to fill up a web page or a newsletter. And, unfortunately,
because of the high demand, there is a lot of very bad PLR material
being sold right now.
But, if you are looking forward to having the freedom to modify the
work of others so that you can have the benefit of having a product in your
own name - without having to go through the process of creating your own
product - you will do well to consider purchasing Private Label Rights.
There are different ways to go about using PLR content and I'll be
sharing some of the more innovative ways in future newsletters or
emails.
The most important thing is that
you want to make sure that the content you publish is of value and
of a suitable quality for your needs. So, we'll talk about what to look for in a
Private Label Rights product and we'll discuss the right and wrong
way to use it. For example, you don't want to put your name on
an unmodified PLR article as the author if there are going to
be a thousand other people doing the same. That wouldn't be very
good for your credibility.
But, those kinds of issues are for
another discussion. Right now, I'd just like to drive home the point
that, by acquiring private label rights to quality material, you
give yourself a lot more in the way of options than you would have
if you had to develop all of your own content from scratch.
